Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your data when you use Value8 to track, value, and trade your LEGO collection.

Information We Collect

Website: When you sign up for our waitlist or newsletter, we collect your email address.

App account: When you create or sign in to a Value8 account, we collect:

  • Email address, username, and authentication credentials
  • Optional profile information (display name, profile image, bio)
  • Device and platform metadata (iOS version, model, language, time zone)
  • Device push-notification tokens (Apple Push Notification service / Firebase Cloud Messaging) if you enable notifications

Collection & financial data: When you use the app to track or value your LEGO collection, we collect:

  • Inventory entries — LEGO sets, minifigures, custom items, and the collections / groupings you organize them into
  • Per-item purchase data you choose to log: quantity, per-unit cost, total paid, purchase date, and the collection an item belongs to
  • Cost basis, market value, and equity calculations derived from the data you log against current pricing
  • Watchlists and per-item deal-alert tier preferences
  • Saved Lot Value Calculator lots, including item lists, condition, quantity, and any export history
  • Reviews, star ratings, and item-issue reports you submit
  • User preferences such as currency, dark/light theme, and layout choices
  • Subscription tier (Free or Pro) and related billing metadata

Payments: If you subscribe to Value8 Pro, payment is handled by Apple App Store. We do not directly collect or store your credit card number or payment-method details. We receive only subscription status, transaction identifiers, and purchase confirmation from the platform.

VAL-U8 Scanner & Camera Access

The VAL-U8 Scanner identifies LEGO sets, polybags, and minifigs from a photo you take inside the app. Camera access is requested only when you open the scanner and can be revoked at any time in your device's system settings.

  • The scanner sends each captured image to our recognition service so it can return a candidate match.
  • Scan images are processed transiently and are not used to build a profile of you. We retain scans only as long as needed to operate the feature, debug accuracy issues, and improve recognition quality.
  • You can ask us to delete your scan history at any time by contacting support@tryvalue8.app.
  • We count the number of scans you perform against your monthly scan quota (Free or Pro tier).

eBay Account Connection

Connecting your eBay account to Value8 (an optional Pro feature) authorizes us to act on your behalf with eBay through eBay's OAuth flow. We never see or store your eBay password.

  • What we store: the OAuth access and refresh tokens eBay issues us, your eBay seller user ID, store metadata, and a mirror of the listing, order, sale, and feedback data needed to power your Value8 dashboard.
  • What we do with it: create and edit listings you author through the app, fetch your active listings + 90-day sale history for analytics, post your shipped tracking, and sync sales into your portfolio with realized P&L.
  • What stays at eBay: the listing itself, the buyer-seller transaction, payments, dispute handling, and shipping. eBay's privacy policy governs the underlying transaction.
  • Disconnecting: you can disconnect your eBay account at any time inside the app. We revoke the tokens with eBay and delete the cached account data on disconnect; mirrored listing/sale history may remain in your portfolio as historical records unless you also delete those entries.

Push Notifications

Push notifications are off by default. When you enable them, we store the device token issued by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) so we can deliver alerts. You can revoke notifications at any time in iOS system settings.

  • Deal alerts: when an eBay listing on an item in your watchlist lands at a deal tier you've opted in to, we send a notification.
  • Sale & listing notifications: updates on your own eBay activity routed through Value8, and notifications from sellers you follow when they post new listings.
  • Service notifications: account-related updates such as subscription changes or critical service alerts.

Per-watchlist-item tier preferences and global notification preferences are stored with your account so the same settings apply across devices.

Public Storefront & Followers

Value8 Pro includes an optional public storefront. When you turn the storefront on, the following information becomes visible to anyone who navigates to it:

  • Username, display name, profile image, and bio
  • Active eBay listings you have created through Value8 (item, price, photos, condition, and listing URL)
  • Aggregate seller stats (feedback score, follower count, items listed)
  • Reviews or comments you post publicly

Inventory items, cost basis, P&L, watchlists, lot calculator lots, and other portfolio data are private and are never shown on your public storefront.

Followers are public — followers can see that they follow you and you can see who follows you. You can disable the storefront, hide your seller profile, or block followers at any time in app settings.

How We Use Data

  • Provide the Value8 service, including inventory tracking, portfolio valuation, lot calculator, scanner, and marketplace surfaces
  • Compute pricing data (6-month medians, average prices, deal-tier scores, cost-basis P&L) for items you own or watch
  • Sync your data across your devices
  • Send push notifications you have opted in to (deal alerts, sale notifications, follow notifications)
  • Operate the eBay integration on your behalf (list, edit, fetch, sync)
  • Improve recognition accuracy of the VAL-U8 Scanner
  • Manage your subscription and enforce feature limits
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and Terms violations
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Storage, Retention & Location

  • Production data is stored on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States (us-east-1 region).
  • Some data is cached locally on your device for offline access and faster load.
  • Data is retained while your account is active. We delete or anonymize data after a verified deletion request.
  • Backup snapshots may persist for up to 30 days after deletion before being permanently purged.
  • Aggregate, anonymized statistics (e.g., total items scanned per month) may be retained indefinitely for product analytics; these cannot be tied back to you.

Third-Party Services

We rely on the following processors to operate Value8. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and contractual data-handling commitments.

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): cloud hosting, database (RDS), object storage (S3), CDN (CloudFront), serverless functions (Lambda), and container hosting (ECS) for our backend.
  • Firebase Authentication (Google): account sign-in and identity verification.
  • Apple App Store: subscription billing and payment processing for iOS.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs): delivery of push notifications.
  • eBay: if you connect your eBay account, eBay APIs power listing creation, sale syncing, and marketplace data.
  • BrickLink: catalog data source for set and minifigure metadata, images, and historical pricing.

We do not sell your personal data to any of these providers.

Your Rights & Choices

  • Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: update inaccurate or incomplete data from inside the app, or by contacting us.
  • Deletion: request account deletion at any time. We will delete your account and personal data on receipt of a verified request (subject to the retention windows above).
  • Portability: request your inventory data in a machine-readable format (CSV).
  • Opt-out: turn off push notifications, disconnect your eBay account, or hide your storefront from app settings.
  • Unsubscribe: remove yourself from the website waitlist or newsletter at any time via the unsubscribe link.

European Users (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation and the UK GDPR:

  • Right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior lawful processing
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority

Legal bases: we process your data under (i) the contract you accept by using the app, (ii) your consent for optional features such as push notifications and the eBay integration, and (iii) our legitimate interest in operating, improving, and securing the service.

International transfers: our infrastructure is in the United States. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent safeguards for transfers out of the EEA / UK.

California Users (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete that information, the right to correct inaccuracies, the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under the CCPA / CPRA.

Children's Privacy

Value8 is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact support@tryvalue8.app and we will delete it promptly.

Security

  • All traffic between the app, website, and our backend is encrypted in transit (HTTPS / TLS).
  • Sensitive credentials (Firebase ID tokens, eBay OAuth tokens, database passwords) are stored in encrypted parameter stores and never exposed to the client.
  • We follow industry-standard security practices including least-privilege IAM, encrypted backups, and isolation between development, test, and production environments.
  • No system is ever completely secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our product evolves or to reflect new legal requirements. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
